<table border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left; vertical-align: top; width: 500px;"><tbody><tr style="padding: 0; text-align: left; vertical-align: top;"><td style="border-collapse: collapse !important; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: normal; hyphens: none; line-height: 1.3; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left; vertical-align: top; word-break: keep-all; word-wrap: break-word;"><img alt="Merry Christmas from John & Donna" height="145" src="https://www.donnawalshwarren.com/MailList/dada/mail.cgi/show_img/Friends/20241220195253/77da47c0d05eea797a8f66a0eadfe238.png" style="clear: both; display: block; max-width: 100%; outline: none; text-decoration: none; width: auto;" width="580" />The end of the year always brings time for reflection and adjustment of expectations.   While overall we had a good year and a lot to be grateful for, it would be remiss not to say we have anxiety, fear and lament as we look forward to the future of our country.  There is a profound sense of loss of truth and justice.   We still have hope, but it is greatly eroded.That being said, this past year our focus has been on health and happiness.  We have been active and successful in keeping fitness, relationships and community activities as our priorities.  Looking back at our calendar for the last year, besides the regular medical appointments, we did a lot of local travel, mostly to participate in get togethers with friends and family, as well as nature and art related activities.  We also went on two cruises this past year and understood how people could live on a cruise ship.  It is like assisted living luxury style.   Both the cruises were to the Caribbean.  We are not much into flying, so cruises leaving from South Florida suit us well.  Donna was teaching watercolor on the last cruise on Azamara and was reminded what a joy it is to teach people watercolor.  There is something so zen about it.We still spend most of our time in Delray Beach FL, and travel to Vermont for four months in the summer.  In both places, art and travel gives us lots of opportunities to meet and engage with interesting people, have wonderful conversations, share our stories and learn new things.  Donna is still very active in the art community in both places and has gotten involved in being a gallerist and curator for contemporary realism as well as expanding her art practice into nature journaling.  John, with his knowledge of history, that could make museum docents weep, always adds interest and intrigue to our art & history gatherings.Hope you all have had a good year as well.  We wish you peace and joy for the holidays and for the coming year.   Attached is a photo collage of some of our adventures from 2024.     Donna & John<img alt="John & Donna 2024 year in review" height="821" src="https://www.donnawalshwarren.com/MailList/dada/mail.cgi/show_img/Friends/20241220195253/62c5181befeff4f18c995e7cd36e96ad_Untitled_design.png" style="clear: both; display: block; max-width: 100%; outline: none; text-decoration: none; width: auto;" width="580" /> </td><td style="border-collapse: collapse !important; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: normal; hyphens: none; line-height: 1.3; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left; vertical-align: top; word-break: keep-all; word-wrap: break-word;"> </td></tr></tbody></table>

Several of our friends and family have had struggles this year and that, of course, made us hope for better times for them in the new year. At the end of my last holiday letter to you all, I mentioned that we were on a health kick and hoping for a less adventurous year. Healthwise, we had a good year, or reasonably so for two old farts. No ER visits or hospitalizations at least.The vehicle front was another issue. While we started the year with a new car, that did not last long as the insurance declared the car a total loss at the beginning of the year, when a speed demon broadsided John as he was leaving a grocery store parking lot. John was fine, thankfully, but shaken. Of course, the camera in the car proved he stopped at the stop sign but that did not prevent the speeder from hooking up with a personal injury lawyer and causing us a good deal of stress. Thank goodness we have a good insurance company and a good lawyer.The other vehicle issue is karma for the first. We have a John Deer riding mower in Vermont which is more of a mini tractor. It is almost ten years old and so we get it regularly maintained, which is no minor issue. We must have it picked up to be taken for repair/maintenance, let them work on it and then bring it back. Just when we were thinking we should give them a call, we got a call from John Deer. “John, about your tractor, I have good news and bad news, what do you want first?”    Ever the optimist, John says “Give me the bad news” “Well” says the John Deer tech, “Your tractor was all fixed and ready for us to take back to you, and a big truck backed over it and totaled it.”  “And there is good news?” John asks skeptically. “Yes, we caught the guy who did it on our surveillance camera and you will be getting a brand-new mower/tractor” Karma and cameras to the rescue.Northen Vermont, as many of you know, suffered severe flooding in our area of Barton. Our home, elevated quite a bit above Roaring Brook, is in our backyard. It is usually more like a dry creek, but this year it lived up to its name. A new little waterfall appeared from the raging water carving out a new route out by the flooding this Spring. FEMA was in the area helping homes and businesses in the flood plain. One of the restaurants, the only real restaurant in Barton, had to close from flood damage. It recently triumphantly reopened. Donna’s art continues to keep her busy, but John continues to remind her to do what brings her joy and not to over commit. He even printed a sign for her stating “NO! is a complete sentence.” Nature and Social Realism continue to stimulate her creative juices. We moved into a new home in a 55+ community.  We really love it here. We still go up to Vermont in the summer.  The biggest change in Vermont is that this year we installed Starlink, so now we finally have high speed internet there.   In Florida we are taking advantage of the amenities the community offers; Donna bikes and swims regularly and John is about to start a walking program.  So, in our new home we have plenty of space. John has an office; Donna has an art studio, and we have a spa area with sauna and hot tub.  In 2021 Donna had a crushed vertebra, frozen shoulder and in November a fall that landed her in the ER trauma unit with a fracture to the orbital floor of the right eye.  John was wonderful taking care of her despite dealing with his own aches and pains.  Fortunately, we connected with some new doctors that were able to get relief from his neuropathic pains.  Donna had surgery in early 2022 for the orbital floor repair which went well and continues to slowly heal.  Thinking it might be safe to cruise again, we went on a Cunard cruise of New England and Nova Scotia in July.  It was wonderful but despite all the precautions and being fully vaccinated, we both got Covid right after we finished the cruise.  Down for the count for about a week and then fatigue and brain fog for about a month.  We are back to wearing masks in crowded spaces.And it gets better if you have an odd sense of humor.  John got a tough stomach bug that had us concerned.  Donna’s turn to take care of John.  As he was getting dehydrated, we went to the ER or tried to.  On the way there, a deer jumped in front of the car.  We were OK; the car and deer did not fair well.  While on the side of the highway John lies down in front of the car to assess the damage.  As it happened, an ambulance was coming in the other direction, and saw a guy lying on the ground in front of a smashed car.  They pull a U turn and come up behind us.  So, they gave John a ride to the ER.  Got to love Vermont, this would not happen in Florida. Since the car was towed away, friends came to our rescue to pick us up from the ER when he was rehydrated and released.The rest of the story was a real cluster F&*) #!  The car could not be repaired right away, so we went back to Florida.  When we came back to ger it, only then do they tell us it is totaled.    So now we have a new car.  And we are hoping for a new year with less adventure.   This year we both lost weight, Donna intentionally and John from the persistent stomach bug.  So, we are trying to eat well and stay active.  That should keep us busy and hopefully away from ER visits.  As evidence that life is returning to normal, Donna did this painting of the 100-foot Christmas tree in Delray Beach.<p align="center" style="color: #0a0a0a; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3; margin: 0; margin-bottom: 11px; padding: 0; text-align: center;"><img alt="" height="707" src="https://www.donnawalshwarren.com/MailList/dada/mail.cgi/show_img/Friends/20221219163145/2f41242025691a32607dce6f9676511e_resized-image-20221217144948-1.jpeg" style="clear: both; display: block; max-width: 100%; outline: none; text-decoration: none; width: auto;" width="580" />Merry Christmas and Happy New YearWith all our love,John & Donna

What a year. You probably noticed we did not send out our usual holiday letter.  Between pandemic, politics, and general life stuff we decided since 2020 lasted until December 37th (aka Jan 6th) we declared January 20th to begin the New Year.  So, let’s hope for new beginnings and renewed health going forward.  Donna focused her art on the Covid series for the first half of the year. The highlight was our cruise on Queen Mary 2. Donna was teaching as artist in residence aboard QM2 and we had a wonderful time. You can see us here in some of our cruise outfits. Keep in mind that on QM2 casual means jacket no tie for dinner. John got a tux and Donna had to get a bunch of formal wear too.
